Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has extended an official invitation to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.
Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, conveyed the invitation during a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, in Abuja on Tuesday. The meeting, attended by a delegation from Brazil, focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, education, culture, and strategic dialogue.
Vieira commended President Tinubu’s participation in the G-20 Summit in Brazil last November, highlighting Nigeria’s vital role in global economic discussions. He emphasized the need for continued engagement, stating, “We value Nigeria’s contributions to the G-20 and look forward to welcoming President Tinubu back to Brazil soon.”
The two countries are expected to sign agreements aimed at fostering economic and cultural exchanges. Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s long-standing ties with Brazil, noting that it was the only Latin American country to participate in Nigeria’s independence celebration in 1960.
“We share many similarities, from our economies and population size to our cultural heritage. This visit is a natural step in strengthening our partnership,” Tuggar said.
The high-level engagement signals a renewed commitment to deepening Nigeria-Brazil relations, with potential collaborations in trade, investment, and education.
