The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered the shallow grave of a missing Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, Adedamola Ogunbode, following the arrest of the prime suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.
Ogunbode, a 2024 Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025. Police confirmed on Tuesday that Ajisomo, who was initially believed to have fled to the Benin Republic, was arrested in the Alakuko area of Lagos and had led detectives to the burial site.
Lagos police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest, stating that Ajisomo was responsible for clearing Ogunbode’s bank account using the victim’s mobile phone.
The investigation had earlier led to the arrest of three suspects, including a pastor, Whepetoji Sunday, who allegedly received N70,000 from the victim’s account, and a church member, Sheriff Adebayo, who was accused of receiving N300,000. The suspect’s mother, Omolara Ajisomo, was also arrested for allegedly helping her sons flee after they withdrew N300,000 each from Ogunbode’s account.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case, following threats of a statewide protest by the students’ union.
Hundeyin clarified that, contrary to social media speculation, the grave was not located within the church premises. However, the police sealed off the church following intelligence reports of a planned arson attack in retaliation for the murder.
Meanwhile, a police source disclosed that detectives were en route to exhume Ogunbode’s body after the prime suspect confessed to the crime.
When asked for confirmation, Hundeyin simply responded, “Confirmed.”
