Tyson Fury may be in line for a world title shot if he makes a comeback to boxing, despite uncertainty over a long-anticipated clash with Anthony Joshua.
The Gypsy King, who retired in January after consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, is widely expected to return to the ring. Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is reportedly preparing a lucrative offer to tempt Fury into a fight with Joshua.
World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman has not ruled out the possibility of Fury competing for a championship belt upon his return. Speaking to The Action Network, Sulaiman said, “We don’t speculate. But we have many examples of how we have attended former champions and legends coming back to boxing. Even Tyson Fury retired in the past and came back to fight for the WBC title. So let’s see.”
Fury, a former two-time unified heavyweight champion, has insisted he is content with retirement, recently telling his cousin Andy Lee that he “can’t be f***ed” with the sport. However, speculation over his return continues to grow, with many believing a bout with Joshua remains the most commercially viable and exciting fight in the heavyweight division.
Joshua, who has long sought a clash with Fury, remains hopeful that their long-awaited showdown will finally materialize. Speaking to iFL TV, he stated, “I feel like it’s the best fight [for me]… Fury, commercially, is a great fight, and it’s a great man’s fight as well. It makes sense.”
While the boxing world waits for an official announcement, Fury’s next move remains uncertain. If he chooses to return, a world title opportunity could be on the table—whether it’s against Joshua or another top contender.
