NIMC Alerts Nigerians on Fake NIN Update Websites, Urges Caution

Date:

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has warned Nigerians against modifying their National Identification Number (NIN) data on unauthorized websites, cautioning that doing so could lead to identity theft and data breaches.

Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, issued the warning in a statement on Monday, March 10, 2025. He emphasized that all modifications to NIN data should only be done through the official NIMC self-service portal to ensure security and data protection.

“By using the self-service portal, individuals can also enjoy the convenience of updating their information from anywhere, at any time,” Adegoke stated.

NIMC further urged the public to avoid unauthorized platforms, as fraudulent sites could compromise personal details, leading to financial fraud and unauthorized access to sensitive information.

The warning comes amid the federal government’s recent efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s national identity system, ensuring secure and efficient management of citizens’ data. Nigerians are advised to use only official NIMC channels for any NIN-related services.
