D.Warriors, one of Nigeria’s leading scrabble teams, has announced a formidable three-player squad for the 2025 PANASA President’s Cup, set to take place from August 14 to 17 at the Trademark Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
The team, opting for a multi-national approach, will feature Ghanaian grandmaster Charles Tachie-Menson, Ugandan scrabble legend Richard Geria, and Kenya’s rising star Nicole Achan.
This year’s President’s Cup introduces a fresh team format, allowing three-player squads from either the same country or mixed nationalities.
Speaking on the selection, D.Warriors’ co-owner, Khaleel Adedeji, said the team’s commitment to excellence.
“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships. We are not just participating; we are coming to compete and win,” he said.
Tachie-Menson, a four-time Grandmaster and six-time Ghanaian national champion, brings a wealth of experience, having recently won the 2024 Lekki Scrabble Classic and Scrabblemania Liberia.
Geria, a veteran with over two decades in competitive scrabble, led Uganda to a historic team gold at the 2023 African Games in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Achan, a silver medallist at the same event, continues her rapid rise in the sport and will serve as the team’s captain.
Adedeji highlighted the players’ character and work ethic as key selection criteria. “We chose players not just for their skills but also for their attitude and team spirit.
“Achan’s leadership, Geria’s tactical calmness, and Tachie-Menson’s resilience make this a formidable team,” he added.
The PANASA President’s Cup serves as a precursor to the 2024 World English Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC), scheduled for November in Ghana.
