Multiple accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NASFAT roundabout have caused severe traffic congestion, leaving motorists stranded on Sunday morning.
The crashes, which occurred shortly after 7 a.m., involved two trucks and at least three other vehicles. Emergency responders, including officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police, are currently on-site managing the situation.
According to TRACE Deputy Commander for the Mowe-Ibafo axis, Kabir Ojerinde, an eyewitness reported that the incident began when a trailer from Lagos attempted to avoid a smaller vehicle crossing at the roundabout. In the process, the trailer lost control and crashed into several vehicles.
One of the affected trucks, which was heavily loaded with watermelons, has been moved off the road to ease traffic flow. While speeding and poor visibility are suspected to have contributed to the crashes, the exact cause is still under investigation.
Authorities have yet to confirm casualty details, but Ojerinde assured that a full report will be issued soon. Meanwhile, motorists are advised to exercise caution as clearance efforts continue.
