Healthcare Boost: Gombe General Hospital Becomes Federal Medical Centre

Date:

In a major boost to healthcare delivery in Gombe State, the Federal Government has officially converted the General Hospital, Kumo, into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC), marking a significant upgrade for the region’s medical services.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The new FMC becomes the second federal medical institution in the state, following the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, which was also upgraded from a medical centre.

The transition, initiated by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to enhance tertiary healthcare services, strengthen medical training, and address critical health challenges in the Northeast, including high maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

This move aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes healthcare reforms nationwide. President Tinubu commended Governor Yahaya for his commitment to improving the health sector and emphasized that the conversion of the hospital would significantly improve access to quality medical care in the region.

With federal backing, Kumo FMC is expected to benefit from increased funding, additional medical personnel, and improved infrastructure, ensuring better healthcare outcomes for residents of Gombe State and beyond.
