Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes suffered another setback after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Meanwhile, Chelsea boosted their Champions League qualification chances with a narrow 1-0 victory over Leicester City.
With Liverpool moving 16 points clear at the top following their 3-1 win against Southampton on Saturday, Arsenal arrived at Old Trafford needing a victory to keep their slim title hopes alive.
However, Bruno Fernandes fired United ahead with a superb free-kick in first-half stoppage time, piling pressure on the Gunners. Declan Rice equalized in the 74th minute with a clinical strike from inside the box, but Mikel Arteta’s side failed to find a winner.
Despite having a game in hand, Arsenal now sit 15 points behind Liverpool, making a late title charge highly unlikely. The Gunners have now gone three league games without a win, effectively handing the title to Arne Slot’s Liverpool, who need only 16 more points from nine matches to be crowned champions.
United, meanwhile, remain 14th in the table, with just one win in their last six games across all competitions. Adding to their troubles, thousands of United fans staged a pre-match protest against club co-owners, the Glazer family and Jim Ratcliffe.
