FG Greenlights N679 Billion for Nationwide Road Construction, Repairs

The Federal Government has approved N679 billion for the rehabilitation and construction of 13 major road projects across the country in a bid to enhance infrastructure and boost economic development.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced the approval on Wednesday after a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving road networks, reducing travel times, and facilitating economic growth through better connectivity.

The projects span multiple states across northern and southern Nigeria, with specific budget allocations and expected completion timelines. Among the key projects are:

  • Aakalari-Ukuk Road, Bauchi State – N11.278 billion allocated; first phase to be completed in six months.
  • Uturu-Isikwuato-Akara Road, Abia State – N5.926 billion approved, with a six-month timeline for the first phase.
  • Zaria-Ukui-Kolomani-Dan Bali-Maraba-Kanya-Subawa-Kasa Road (Kaduna/Katsina States) – N198 billion awarded to MotherCat Nigeria Limited, with a three-year completion timeline.
  • Kano-Maiduguri Road – Originally assigned to Dantata Sawo, now reassigned to Tractor Nigeria Limited, with a budget of N128.395 billion and an 18-month timeline.
  • Bagudu Road, Kebbi State – 57-kilometer road approved at N2.645 billion.
  • Oba-Nnewi-Arondizogu-Okigwe Road (Imo/Anambra States) – N8.45 billion allocated; first phase to undergo six-month rescoping.
  • Iyin-Ilawe-Ekiti Road Project – Initially approved at N13.736 billion, with an additional N15.626 billion allocated for completion.
  • Ilogu Road (Kwara/Osun States) – First phase valued at N7.556 billion, expected completion within six months.
  • Wukari-Akwana Road, Taraba State – N12.615 billion allocated with a one-year completion timeline.
  • Bida-Lapaya-Lambda Road, Niger State – First phase estimated at N39.493 billion with a six-month timeline.
  • Gada-Zamazuru-Gamji Road – N11.976 billion allocated with a six-month completion target.
  • Kamakish Road, Oyo State – N12.35 billion allocated, expected to be completed in one year.
  • Aba-Ikot-Ekpene Road Dualisation – N30 billion allocated to CGC Nigeria Limited for phased dualisation.

The Minister reaffirmed the administration’s focus on infrastructure as a key driver of economic progress. He assured Nigerians that quality construction and timely completion would be prioritized to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of these projects.

The approval aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda to modernize Nigeria’s road network, ease transportation burdens, and support industrial and commercial activities nationwide.
