EFCC Questions Ex-Women Affairs Minister Ohanenye Over ₦138m Fraud Allegation

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is interrogating former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over allegations of misappropriation, procurement violations, and diversion of public funds amounting to ₦138 million.

Sources within the anti-graft agency confirmed that Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11 a.m. on Thursday and remained in custody as operatives questioned her regarding her alleged involvement in the fraudulent activities.

“Investigators are questioning the former minister over the misappropriation of ₦138,413,253.89, violation of procurement processes, and diversion of funds meant for the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative,” a source within the commission revealed.

The EFCC’s probe suggests that the funds, originally allocated in the 2023 budget for women-focused programs, were allegedly diverted for personal enrichment.

Efforts to obtain a response from the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

Ohanenye was among the five ministers dismissed by President Bola Tinubu following the 19th Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House in October 2024.

She was replaced by Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, the former Minister of State for Police Affairs.

The EFCC is expected to provide further updates as investigations progress.
