Music executive Soso Soberekon has revealed that KCee’s popular hit song “Limpopo” was initially supposed to feature international superstar Beyoncé.
According to Soberekon, a Nigerian billionaire had arranged for Beyoncé to collaborate with KCee, with plans for a concert in Nigeria followed by a recording session.
In an interview with Daddy Freeze, Soberekon shared the details of how the collaboration was intended to unfold.
“A Nigerian billionaire wanted to make it happen, so he contacted me to reach out to Beyoncé’s team,” he explained.
The plan was for Beyoncé to perform in Nigeria, and after the concert, she would record a song with KCee.
Soberekon, along with others, flew to New York to make the arrangements and then returned to Nigeria to record a song that Beyoncé would enjoy.
This eventually became the hit “Limpopo.”
However, things took a turn when the agent who had connected them with Beyoncé delivered disappointing news.
“A week later, the agent called and broke our hearts,” Soberekon recalled.
“He said Beyoncé says she can’t sleep in Nigeria; she can only sleep in Ghana. Therefore, she can’t make it for the concert.”
In response, Soberekon said they were initially frustrated, but rather than dwell on the setback, they decided to release “Limpopo” without the Beyoncé collaboration.
To their surprise, the song went on to become a massive hit.
This revelation adds another layer of intrigue to the success of KCee’s “Limpopo,” a song that has since become a major anthem in Nigerian music.
