Obasa Resumes as Lagos Speaker, Says He Remains in Charge

Date:

Ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared that he has officially resumed his position as the parliament’s leader, despite his removal from office on January 13.

Obasa made the statement on Thursday after arriving at the assembly complex with police and State Security Service (SSS) operatives, marking his first return since his ousting.

“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said, reaffirming his claim to the leadership position.

His return comes amid ongoing political tensions within the Lagos Assembly, with divisions between lawmakers and conflicting legal interpretations of his removal.

The development follows previous attempts by Obasa’s supporters to push for his reinstatement, including legal threats and demonstrations at the assembly complex.

As the situation unfolds, it remains unclear how lawmakers and state authorities will respond to Obasa’s move, with more reactions expected in the coming days.
