Ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Thursday stormed the assembly complex alongside security officials, escalating tensions over the leadership of the legislative body.
Obasa, who was removed from office in a recent shake-up, reportedly arrived at the assembly around noon and made his way into the Speaker’s Office, despite the presence of officials loyal to the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
His sudden appearance followed the withdrawal of security aides attached to Meranda, fueling speculation of a power struggle within the assembly. Reports indicate that Obasa and his supporters allegedly forced their way into the office, a claim made by Segun Ajiboye, Chief Press Secretary to Meranda.
“We’re at the assembly now,” a source close to Obasa confirmed, signaling his determination to reclaim his position.
The situation at the Lagos Assembly remains tense, with both factions awaiting further developments.
