The Chairman of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has stated that the North is breaking up, and is at war with itself.
Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu who stated this during a courtesy call paid on the Governors of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, and Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Bauchi, on Monday, said that the region needs urgent attention to salvage it from total collapse.
“If you look around very well, there are some who are busy running down the North. It is not only USAID that is our problem; there are those who are instigating Hausa fighting Fulani and other things. These are the things we must urgently take care of before we are consumed.”
“These segments of the people are using every available divisive measure to further aggravate our poverty situation and perpetrate all forms of evils among our people.”
“We must be very careful, do away with every materialistic tendency, and unite our people, make our region better and stronger.” he said
Babangida Aliyu eulogised the lives and times of Nigeria’s founding fathers, including Late Ahmadu Bello, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and a host of others, for bequeathing a legacy of unity on the north while they ruled, stressing that such must not be allowed to die.
In his response, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state stressed on the importance of unity and regional integration in Nigeria, calling on the need for leaders to work together to address the country’s challenges, particularly in the areas of poverty, security and education.
Governor Bala Mohammed emphasized on the importance of learning from the past, saying that the legacy of Nigeria’s past leaders, such as Ahmadu Bello, should be built upon to promote unity and development.
The governor said that there is the need for leaders to be guided by principles and to prioritize the interests of the people, adding thatt the country’s diversity should be celebrated.
“Unity is essential for progress, the trust deficit between the government and the people is a significant obstacle to development, and efforts should be made to bridge this gap” he said
