Man United get green light to complete dream Osimhen transfer

Date:

Manchester United have been told that they remain an option for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window.

Last summer, Osimhen was one of the most in demand players on the market after it became clear that he wanted to leave Napoli.

However, an exit from the Naples club could not be reached with a move to the Saudi Pro League on the table on transfer deadline day and Osimhen refusing it.

Eventually, the centre-forward would agree to a loan deal with the Istanbul club after being informed that he would not be picked by manager Antonio Conte in Italy.

In Turkey, Osimhen has continued his goalscoring form with 17 goals in 23 appearances this campaign.

He will be due to return to Napoli at the end of the season but it seems certain that he will be moved on to free up some funds for Conte to spend.

While United may feel they are out of the race for the 26-year-old, AC Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini believes that the Reds could still pull off a deal for the striker.

“Victor Osimhen is one of the best strikers in Europe, the issue at Napoli was due to his agent and his club,” the 47-year-old told bet365.

“He wanted to leave Napoli but they couldn’t find a solution so he ended up at Galatasaray, with all due respect.

“He could play wherever he wants in any county he wants to, Chelsea is an option, Manchester United is an option, he can play wherever he wants.”

Reports in Turkey over the weekend claimed that Osimhen was currently in the middle of negotiating a move to a new agency which is believed to strengthen United’s hand.

United are destined to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window having chosen not to approach a player on deadline day.

Manchester Evening News Sport understands that the Reds wanted to save their money in January rather than buying a short-term option this winter.
