Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen made a goalscoring return from suspension, scoring a brace for Turkish giants Galatasaray who defeated Rizespor 2-1 in their league clash on Monday.
With this brace, Osimhen has now scored 14 goals and provided four assists (19 goals, five assists across all competitions) this in the Turkish Lig this season for Galatasaray.
The 26-year-old forward showed why he is an indispensable asset for the team, netting two stunning headed goals and earning the Man-of-the-Match award with his impressive display at the expense of his compatriots Babajide David and Ibrahim Olawoyin who both turned ot for Rizespor.
After missing the shocking defeat to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, Osimhen returned to action with a vengeance, proving to new signing Alvaro Morata that he remains the player to beat at Rams Park.
The match started slowly for both teams, but Osimhen quickly changed the momentum after a goalless first half.
He towered above defenders to head Galatasaray ahead two minutes into the second half, although that lead was short-lived as Rizespor equalised just seven minutes later.
However, Osimhen was not done yet as he sealed victory for his side four minutes from time, when he found himself in the right place at the right time to head home a loose ball from a corner to secure all three points for his team.
His performance shows his importance to the squad as they aim for success in both domestic and European competitions.
With Galatasaray turning attention to rescuing their European dream, Osimhen’s return is a promising sign for fans and teammates.
The striker’s ability to deliver in crucial moments makes him a key figure as the team looks to bounce back from the setback against AZ at home.
