The full marathon kicked off at 6:30 am from the National Stadium in Surulere, while the 10km race began later at 9:30 am from Grace Garden Event Centre in Lekki. Both races concluded at Eko Atlantic City.

Lagos State governor, Sanwo-Olu also took part in the race, alongside, many other celebrities.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager of the race and retired Nigerian long jumper, Yusuf Ali, noted that “the figure was derived from the number of running kits distributed out of the over 60,000 runners who registered to take part.”

“The enthusiasm for this race continues to grow every year. While we had over 60,000 registered runners, around 37,000 actively participated,” Ali stated.

The race which started in 2016 entered its 10th year with a World Athletics gold label and the organisers set their sights on getting the platinum label, thereby becoming the first marathon race in Africa to reach the status.
