Cristiano Ronaldo has solidified his place as the highest-earning sports star of 2024, with a remarkable £208 million in earnings, according to Sportico’s annual list of the top 100 sports figures. The Portuguese football icon’s staggering income, which includes £172 million from his Saudi Pro League contract with Al-Nassr FC, outstrips that of all his competitors across multiple sports.

Ronaldo’s earnings dwarf those of his closest rival, NBA star Stephen Curry, who ranks second with £123 million, boosted by £80 million from lucrative endorsement deals. Tyson Fury, despite his loss in the heavyweight title clash with Oleksandr Usyk, claimed third place with £112 million, marking him as the highest-paid British athlete of the year.

The top five is rounded off by Lionel Messi, who secured £108 million in total earnings, including £60 million from endorsements, and NBA legend LeBron James with £106 million. Messi’s earnings place him second among footballers, while James’ income is propelled by £68 million in endorsements.

In the golf world, Jon Rahm took the top spot with £84 million, followed closely by Scottie Scheffler at £83 million. Notable figures in American football, such as Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, earned £80 million, while Formula One champion Max Verstappen made £61 million.

Premier League stars fared slightly lower, with Erling Haaland of Manchester City earning £55.6 million, putting him in 24th place overall. Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne also made the top 100, with £44 million and £32 million, respectively.

Other big names on the list include Jake Paul, who earned £38 million, and golfers Rory McIlroy (£56 million) and Tyrrell Hatton (£37.4 million). British athletes like Anthony Joshua (£48 million) and Harry Kane (£33.4 million) also featured prominently in the rankings.

Ronaldo’s continued dominance in the earnings list highlights his exceptional business acumen and marketability beyond football, with his endorsement deals and personal ventures complementing his footballing success.
