Lagos Firefighters Contain Blaze at Iddo’s AG Leventis Building, No Casualties

Date:

A seven-storey commercial building in the Iddo area of Lagos Island was engulfed by a fire on Thursday, though prompt action by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) prevented widespread damage and ensured no casualties.

The fire, which broke out at approximately 10:00 AM, originated in the archival room on the first floor of the AG Leventis-owned building, which houses various businesses, including Nigeria Bottling Company PLC. According to Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the blaze was swiftly contained, and efforts by the Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations ensured the fire did not spread beyond its point of origin.

“The fire started in an archival room of about 108 square meters on the first floor and was successfully extinguished by our combined teams,” said Adeseye. She confirmed that while the cause of the fire is still under investigation, initial findings point to self-ignition due to rising room temperatures.

Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities. Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the fire. Authorities have praised the quick response from the fire stations, which helped avert a more severe situation.

The Iddo area, a bustling hub for commercial activities, has since returned to normal operations. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service continues to ensure the safety of the public with ongoing monitoring and preventive measures.
