El-Rufai Dismisses Criticism, Stresses Loyalty to God, Country, and Party

Date:

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims that he failed to support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. El-Rufai stated on Monday that he has moved past such allegations and that his political actions were made with no personal expectations.

The statement follows a tweet by an individual, Yusuf Tukur, who accused El-Rufai of not supporting Tinubu after initially receiving support from the president’s camp. Tukur suggested that Tinubu’s team had sought El-Rufai’s backing but later turned on him.

In his response, El-Rufai shared on his X handle that his actions were motivated by faith, patriotism, and party loyalty. “We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is merely another life experience and part of human nature. We have moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well,” he wrote.

El-Rufai, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also expressed his dissatisfaction with political pretension in the country. He criticized politicians who, according to him, act as if they were part of a Nollywood movie. “Truly, I don’t know how to pretend. Being a Nollywood actor in governance is for some others, not for some of us,” he remarked.

Despite the ongoing political discourse, El-Rufai’s statements suggest a desire to move forward from past events and focus on his vision for governance.
