Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport recorded a historic milestone on Friday, February 7, 2025, as its first commercial flight successfully landed at the facility.
The aircraft, operated by Rano Air, departed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 4:25 PM and touched down at the Ekiti airport in Ado Ekiti at 5:10 PM.
Among the notable passengers on board was the former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, accompanied by other dignitaries. The arrival was greeted with fanfare and marked a significant step toward boosting the state’s economy and positioning it as a key hub for agro-allied exports.
The Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport received approval from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in December 2024 to commence non-scheduled flight operations under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The approval, valid for six months—from December 15, 2024, to June 15, 2025—set the stage for the airport’s operational debut.
During a recent inspection, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, lauded the airport’s construction quality, describing its runway as one of the best in Nigeria. His remarks highlighted the federal government’s commitment to improving aviation infrastructure and expanding air travel connectivity across the country.
The Ekiti airport is strategically positioned to enhance the export of agricultural products from the state, offering a significant boost to the local economy and reducing the logistical challenges faced by farmers and exporters.
With this inaugural flight, the airport has signaled the beginning of a new era for Ekiti State, promising increased business opportunities, improved connectivity, and greater economic development.
