Former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has expressed confidence that the coming of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) would change the face of the zone.
Ortom in a statement by his media Aide, Terver Akase, said the new commission would address several challenges, such as insecurity and economic sabotage plaguing the area.
Mr Ortom also commended President Bola Tinubu, and the Senator Abba Moro (PDP Benue South), and Senator Titus Za (Benue North-West) who is the pioneer Chairman of the Senate Committee on NCDC, for their roles in the establishment of the commission.
According to him, the birth of NCDC was a confirmation of President Tinubu’s commitment to listening to the voices and yearnings of the people, especially the cries of communities that have suffered unprovoked attacks.
He described “the development as a historic and pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to address the myriad of challenges faced by the North Central region of the country, including security threats and economic sabotage.”
This is even as he emphasized that the region “has endured over a decade of devastation, with countless lives lost and millions displaced due to the relentless attacks by armed herders, bandits, and other criminal elements.
“The establishment of the NCDC confirms President Tinubu’s commitment to listening to the voices and yearnings of the people.
“I believe that the NCDC will not just be a bureaucratic entity; it will represent hope for our communities that have suffered immeasurable losses due to unprovoked attacks. The people of North Central have long awaited this moment, and it is heartening to see that our aspirations have been recognized at the highest level of government”, he said.
He pointed out that the Bill establishing the commission was a demonstration of his (Moro’s) commitment to the welfare of the people of the North Central.
“Senator Moro has once again demonstrated remarkable commitment to the welfare of our people. He has been a tireless champion for peace and development. His efforts have been instrumental in bringing this vision to fruition, and I commend him for his exemplary leadership,” ortom maintained.
He further congratulated Senator Zam for his appointment as the Committee Chairman.
The former governor continued, “As one of those who consistently advocated the creation of a Commission to address the development challenges confronting the North Central and also help in rebuilding the ravaged parts of the region, Chief Ortom urges the people of the area to support the NCDC to succeed, when the commission is (fully) established.”
