Kanye West has publicly urged former U.S. President Donald Trump to free his “idol” and music mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently behind bars facing sex trafficking and racketeering charges. West, 47, took to social media to rally support for Combs, who has been incarcerated in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest in September 2024.
In a series of impassioned posts on X (formerly Twitter), West implored Trump to intervene, calling for Combs’ release and expressing deep concern for his idol’s well-being. “FREE PUFF” was one of the first messages, quickly followed by, “PLEASE FREE MY BROTHER PUFF.” West’s posts continued throughout the day, with multiple calls to action, urging celebrities and fans to support Combs during his legal battle. “We love you, Puff,” he wrote in one of his final messages on X, referencing the hip-hop icon’s popular nickname.
West, who has previously shown admiration for Combs, described the music mogul as his “idol” and “hero” in several posts, emphasizing how much Combs had given to the hip-hop community. In one post, he shared how Combs had “given his life to us” and called on fellow celebrities to join him in supporting Combs during his legal struggles.
Combs, 54, faces serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, with his trial set to begin on May 5, 2025. Federal prosecutors accuse Combs of leading Bad Boy Records as a “criminal enterprise” and subjecting multiple women to trafficking. Recently, two more women came forward, further complicating Combs’ legal situation. Combs has consistently denied the charges and pleaded not guilty to the allegations, including claims of abuse and trafficking involving women and even minors.
Despite the severity of the charges, West has continued his online campaign, suggesting that the criminal justice system is attempting to make an example out of Combs. In an unusual move, West also unveiled merchandise on his Yeezy website, promoting a collaboration with Combs’ fashion brand, Sean John, which he claims was part of a business arrangement prior to Combs’ arrest.
The online campaign is the latest in a series of controversial posts from West, who has previously expressed strong opinions on various issues. His unwavering support for Combs has sparked debates online, with fans divided over whether the rapper’s calls for Combs’ release are justified.
As Combs awaits trial, West’s plea to President Trump for intervention has brought further attention to the legal case, but it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming months.
