Yobe Teachers Resort To Prayers Over N70,000 Minimum Wage

Date:

Primary school teachers in Yobe State have taken their plight to God in prayers in a desperate attempt to influence the state government to implement the new minimum wage of N70,000.

The teachers declared a one-day fasting and prayer session to complement their patient wait for months, despite rising inflation and economic hardship.

The prayer session, which is scheduled to take place across various schools and the 17 local government areas, is aimed at urging the government to prioritize their demands.

The teachers lamented that their welfare has been neglected, making it increasingly difficult to meet their basic needs.

They said though they are committed to their duties, they can no longer endure the hardship caused by stagnant wages.

The teachers further warned that if their grievances are not quickly addressed, they may be forced to embark on industrial action to press home their rights.

Experts are concerned about the potential impact on the crisis on the education sector in a region with record low primary school attendants.
