Tinubu Signs North-Central Development Commission Bill Into Law

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday signed  the bill to create the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC).

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, announced this during today’s plenary.

The NCDC is designed to tackle challenges and promote economic growth, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the region.

The North Central region is reputed to be the food basket of the Nation, but Agriculture is still at a subsistence level. There are many minerals but they are not mined whole-scale.

Speaking during plenary Akpabio said: “Let me also inform my colleagues that Mr. President has also assented to North-Central Development Commission establishment bill 2024, in order to bring development to the grassroot.

“And for this we congratulate the good people of the North-Central region of Nigeria, and we wish them more development and particularly peace, as we forge ahead in the task of nation building.”

The North Central region of Nigeria offers a wide range of sights and experiences; from the confluence town of Lokoja to the purest iron ore for instance is in Itakpe in Kogi State and from the Capital city of Abuja to the mountain caves. It is made up of Six states namely Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau States.

The Establishment Act further mandates the NCDC to coordinate “the resettlement, rehabilitation, integration and reconstruction of infrastructure for victims and terrorism as well as tackling the menace of poverty, illiteracy, ecological challenges in the North-Central states and other related matters”.
