Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is on the verge of leaving Sevilla, with English Championship side Middlesbrough reportedly optimistic about securing his signature before the transfer deadline.
Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City on July 31, 2024, has struggled for regular playing time in Spain. Since his arrival, he has made just five La Liga starts and two Copa del Rey appearances, scoring three goals.
With limited opportunities at Sevilla, several clubs across England and Europe have been monitoring the Nigerian forward’s situation, looking to capitalize on his lack of game time. Middlesbrough has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to sign him, with football journalist Nizaar Kinsella reporting that the club is keen on securing Iheanacho’s services before the transfer window closes.
The recent signing of fellow Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Montpellier has further complicated Iheanacho’s position at Sevilla. Adams made his debut in a 0-0 draw against Getafe while Iheanacho remained an unused substitute, signaling that his time at the club could be coming to an end.
Middlesbrough, currently pushing for promotion to the Premier League, is also looking to bring in Samuel Iling-Junior alongside Iheanacho before the deadline. A move to the English second tier could provide the Nigerian forward with much-needed playing time as he seeks to revive his career.
With the transfer window closing soon, Middlesbrough will be hoping to finalize the deal and strengthen their attacking options with Iheanacho’s experience and goal-scoring ability.
