Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing deep divisions and factionalisation within the party as key reasons for his decision.
In a resignation letter addressed to the party leadership of Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, dated January 30, 2025, Nwoko expressed his dissatisfaction with the party’s internal strife, which he described as irreconcilable.
He explained that these ongoing conflicts had made it difficult to unite the party and advance the interests of the people.
“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalisation within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko stated.
“Just this week, precisely on the 29th of January, the top party functionaries degenerated to the lowest levels by physically fighting themselves arising from the stated factions, which have become irreconcilable.
Nwoko specifically referenced an incident on January 29, where party members engaged in physical confrontations due to the factionalism within the party, further highlighting the internal struggles.
Despite his departure from the PDP, Nwoko expressed gratitude for the platform it provided him during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, which enabled him to directly engage with his constituents.
However, he noted that the current party structure in Delta State has hindered his ability to fulfill the promises made during his campaign.
In his statement, Nwoko assured his constituents that he remains committed to their well-being and will continue to serve them to the best of his ability.
He said his decision was made in the best interest of the people he represents, pledging to remain dedicated to the progress of Delta State and the nation.
“Regrettably, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realising these promises. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people.
“While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship.
“My decision is rooted in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he added.
Nwoko also thanked the PDP leadership and members for their support over the years and wished the party success in its future endeavours.
