Awoniyi, Aina, Onuachu, Aribo suffer defeats in EPL

Date:

Four Super Eagles players endured disappointing defeats with their respective clubs in the English Premier League on Saturday.

The players are Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi, Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo.

At the Vitality Stadium, Aina and Awoniyi featured for Nottingham Forest, who were brought crashing back to reality with their worst result of the season.

It was a difficult 90 minutes for the Nigerian duo and their teammates.

From the start, Forest lacked the qualities that had previously defined their strong performances.

In the ninth minute, their normally solid defense faltered, allowing Justin Kluivert space to open the scoring with a 25-yard strike that beat goalkeeper Matz Sels.

The goal marked Kluivert’s 11th of the season.

Forest’s chances of recovery were dashed early in the second half, as Bournemouth shifted into high gear.

Dango Ouattara netted a hat-trick, and Antoine Semenyo completed the rout with a solo effort for the fifth goal in stoppage time.

Aina played for 79 minutes and received a rating of 3.21 from the BBC, while Awoniyi came on for Morgan Gibbs-White in the 79th minute.

Before Saturday’s defeat, Forest had been on an eight-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Despite the heavy loss, they remain in third place with 44 points.

At St. Mary’s Stadium, Paul Onuachu made his 24th league appearance for Southampton, but it ended in a 3-1 loss to Newcastle United.

This marked Onuachu’s 19th defeat since joining the club two years ago. His compatriot, Joe Aribo, also featured in Southampton’s loss to the Magpies.

These players will aim to help their respective teams return to winning ways when they return to action next weekend.
