Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has responded sharply to recent remarks by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of betrayal and divisive politics.
In a press statement released and signed by Mukhtar Gidado, the governor’s special adviser media and publicity, Governor Mohammed criticised Wike for his perceived disloyalty to the People’s Democratic Party, the party that facilitated his rise in politics.
Mohammed, who also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, labeled Wike’s statements as incoherent and self-serving.
“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP, yet he gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him,” the statement signed by Mukhtar Gidado, the governor’s special adviser media and publicity read.
Mohammed further described Wike as a “transactional politician” whose ambitions often eclipse loyalty and collective interests.
The feud between the two political heavyweights escalated after Wike, in a media chat, criticised Mohammed’s opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.
Mohammed dismissed the criticism as baseless, pointing out what he called Wike’s “hypocritical dual loyalty,” as the minister continues to affiliate with the PDP while openly supporting the ruling APC government.
“Chief Wike’s behavior raises serious questions about his credibility and moral compass.
“Nigerians are not deceived by his antics,” Mohammed said.
The Bauchi governor highlighted his own contributions to national discourse, particularly his stance on the Tax Reform Bills, which he said were rooted in ensuring accountability and inclusive governance.
Mohammed also took aim at Wike’s leadership style, accusing him of prioritising “media theatrics” over governance since assuming office as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Mohammed, Wike’s confrontational approach has alienated stakeholders and undermined the credibility of the APC-led administration.
