A tragic incident unfolded at the Palasa Guest Inn in Gwagwalada on Thursday morning when a Police Inspector, Lawal Ibrahim, was found dead following an alleged sexual encounter with a woman he met online.
Inspector Ibrahim, attached to the Kwali Division, checked into the hotel on Wednesday night with Maryam Abba, who had traveled from Dutse, Jigawa State, to meet him.
Eyewitnesses report that the pair engaged in a sexual encounter on Wednesday night and again early Thursday morning. After the second round, Maryam reportedly noticed the officer’s breathing became erratic and that he stopped responding.
In an attempt to revive him, Maryam sprinkled water on him, but to no avail. She raised the alarm and alerted the hotel manager, Danlami Palasa, who contacted the police.
Responding officers found the inspector unresponsive in the room. He was taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. His body was later deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
Items recovered from the hotel room included a watermelon, a suspected aphrodisiac, the inspector’s phone charger, and his police identity card.
Maryam Abba has been taken into custody as the investigation continues. An anonymous officer at the Gwagwalada division confirmed the incident, noting that authorities are working to determine the cause of death.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
The incident has raised questions surrounding the circumstances of the inspector’s death, with the police pledging a thorough investigation to uncover the facts.
