SCSO Applauds Matawalle for Dismantling Bello Turji’s Criminal Operations in Zamfara

Date:

The Shinkafi Civil Society Organization (SCSO) has praised the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, for leading a highly successful military operation that resulted in the death of a close associate and the son of notorious kidnapper Bello Turji. The operation, carried out by the Nigerian Army over the weekend, has been hailed as a significant blow to Turji’s criminal gang.

The attack was launched following threats made by Turji earlier this year, vowing to launch assaults on Shinkafi starting January 1, 2025. Acting on Matawalle’s directives, Nigerian Army troops targeted the gang’s camp, killing several of Turji’s associates and dealing a substantial blow to his operations. While Turji himself managed to escape with serious injuries, the destruction of his camp and the dismantling of his network marked a decisive turn in the ongoing fight against banditry in the region.

Kabiru Yahuza, Chairman of the SCSO, expressed gratitude for the operation during a press briefing in Shinkafi, calling it a turning point in the battle against insecurity. “The recent offensive has given Shinkafi residents renewed confidence in their safety,” Yahuza said, acknowledging the significant impact of Matawalle’s leadership in the ongoing security efforts.

Residents of Shinkafi, who have been suffering from months of attacks by Turji’s gang, have welcomed the military’s success, attributing it to the proactive approach of the Minister of State for Defence. The SCSO also urged continued support for the Nigerian military and local authorities, stressing the importance of collective action in tackling banditry.

Despite not being the first chief security officer of Zamfara State, Minister Matawalle’s commitment to the safety and welfare of the people has been exemplary. His leadership has bolstered security measures, restoring hope to communities devastated by years of banditry and violence.

The military’s latest success is seen as a reflection of the growing effectiveness of Nigeria’s security forces under the current administration. Authorities have called for patience and ongoing support from citizens as efforts to restore peace and security across Zamfara and beyond continue.

Minister Matawalle reaffirmed his dedication to eradicating the threat posed by bandits, vowing to continue working towards lasting peace and security in the region.
