Tinubu Vows to Prevent Fuel Scooping Tragedies Following Niger Fatal Tanker Explosion

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered immediate medical attention for those injured in the devastating fuel tanker explosion that occurred on Saturday at Dikko Junction in Niger State. The tragic incident claimed the lives of over 80 individuals, many of whom were reportedly trying to scoop fuel from the overturned tanker when the explosion occurred.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the incident as “both preventable and heartbreaking.” He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Niger State.

In addition to directing prompt medical care for the injured, the President has instructed security and road safety agencies to take immediate steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. He emphasized the importance of public awareness, urging Nigerians to exercise extreme caution around fuel-laden vehicles and accident sites due to the highly explosive nature of such incidents.

The President also ordered the National Orientation Agency to launch a nationwide campaign to educate the public on the dangers and environmental risks of fuel scooping. “It is crucial that Nigerians understand the severe consequences of such actions to avoid further loss of lives,” Tinubu said.

Reaffirming his commitment to public safety, President Tinubu expressed his administration’s determination to prevent similar tragedies and ensure a safer environment for all citizens.
