PDP Confirms Okoye as National Secretary, says Anyanwu misled Nigerians

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party has clarified the leadership tussle within its ranks, asserting that Udeh Okoye remains the National Secretary, following the Court of Appeal’s ruling on January 13, 2025.

The clarification comes amid claims by Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu that he secured a stay of execution on the court’s earlier decision, which the party describes as misleading.

In a statement issued by Barr. Kenneth Okoronkwo, the PDP said that the Certified True Copy of the January 13 ruling upheld the December 20, 2024 decision, which had removed Anyanwu from office.

According to Okoronkwo, the court ordered all parties to maintain the “status quo ante bellum” but did not grant Anyanwu’s request for a stay of execution.

“Senator Anyanwu has been deceiving Nigerians and party members by falsely claiming that the court granted him a stay of execution,” Okoronkwo said.

“It is crucial to note that the court’s ruling remains binding, and as such, Udeh Okoye continues as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP.”

The party also called on its members, the Independent National Electoral Commission and stakeholders
to recognise Okoye’s leadership, warning against actions that could cause confusion within its ranks.

“Anyanwu’s actions are not only a disregard for the rule of law but a deliberate attempt to undermine the party’s leadership,” the statement added.

“The PDP remains committed to upholding its constitution and ensuring that due process is followed.”

The clarification seeks to resolve ongoing speculations within Nigeria’s political landscape and reaffirm the party’s stance on adherence to judicial rulings.
