The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of key access roads in Abuja from January 14 to January 15, in preparation for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration. The affected roads include those leading to the National Arcade and the Federal Secretariat in Phases I and II.
This development was confirmed in a circular issued on Friday by Mahmud A. Kambari, Permanent Secretary for Social Welfare in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF).
The circular, titled “Cordoning off Roads Around the Federal Secretariat in view of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration,” directed Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to comply with the arrangements.
The wreath-laying ceremony, the highlight of the celebration, will take place on January 15, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expected to lead the event. To facilitate security and smooth proceedings, civil servants in the affected areas have been asked to delay their resumption until the event concludes.
Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an annual observance marking the end of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970. It honors fallen heroes and veterans who have sacrificed their lives for Nigeria’s peace and security.
The commemoration features various activities, including the launch of the Remembrance Emblem, Nigerian Legion Humanitarian Day, and a Remembrance Day Parade, underscoring the nation’s gratitude to its military personnel.
This year’s event aims to reinforce national unity and pay tribute to the courage and dedication of Nigeria’s armed forces.
