Ndidi: Missing 2026 World Cup Would Be a Huge Setback

Date:

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has issued a rallying cry to his teammates, emphasising the importance of securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He warned that failing to qualify would significantly blow Nigerian football.

Ndidi’s comments came during an X Space session hosted by teammate Kenneth Omeruo on Monday.

The Leicester City star acknowledged the team’s precarious position in the qualifiers but expressed optimism about their chances.

“We know we’re in a critical situation, and we cannot afford to let this opportunity slip,” Ndidi said.

“For some players, this might be the last chance to represent Nigeria globally. Missing out would be a huge disappointment.”

The Super Eagles face an uphill battle in their qualifying campaign. They trail group leaders South Africa.

With only two matches remaining, they must win both and hope for favorable results in other fixtures to advance.

Fans and football analysts have also called for unity and a renewed fighting spirit within the team. Ndidi echoed these sentiments, urging his teammates to stay focused and give their best.

“The World Cup is every footballer’s dream. We owe it to ourselves, our fans, and the entire country to fight till the very end,” he added.

The Super Eagles’ next match is in February against the Benin Republic, a must-win encounter that could determine their World Cup fate.
