Chelle To Meet Super Eagles Players Next Week In Europe

Date:

After signing a two-year contract as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle is expected to travel for meetings with some senior members of the Super Eagles.

The Franco-Malian coach, whose mandate is to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, will spend a few days with the Eagles B team at their camp in Ikenne before flying to Paris to watch Moses Simon’s Nantes play in a French league match.

According to his itinerary, Chelle is also scheduled to visit England, Turkey, and Germany to meet players such as Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Nathan Tella, and a few others to discuss his plans for the team.

Chelle will return to join the Super Eagles B team, who are preparing for the CHAN tournament in Ikenne.

He will accompany the team to next month’s CHAN tournament in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, where he will play a supervisory role.

Confirming Chelle’s involvement with the Super Eagles B team, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, said the new coach will join Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, who have been preparing the team for weeks.

“The idea is for the new head coach to work alongside his three assistants who qualified the Super Eagles B team for CHAN, with the hope that he will identify some talents to possibly promote to the A team,” Gusau said at the unveiling.

“However, his role with the CHAN team will be limited to supervision, and we are hopeful the team will perform well and win the trophy. All we require from Nigerians is their total support and prayers.”

Chelle, who took Mali’s Aiglons within breathing distance of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, left his job at top Algerian side MC Oran – 1989 African Champions’ Cup finalists – to team up with the Super Eagles.
