Over 5,000 Sokoto Residents Benefit from Nigerian Army’s Free Medical Outreach

Date:

The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto has successfully provided free health services to over 5,000 residents of Gidan Gabas in Dange/Shuni Local Government Area. This initiative, which took place on Monday, was part of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities and highlights the Army’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.

Major General Ibikunke Ajose, General Officer Commanding the 8th Division, alongside Brigadier General Ogbonnaya Igwe, emphasized the significance of the event as a demonstration of the Army’s dedication to improving the health and well-being of underserved communities. The initiative aimed to reach rural areas such as Gidan Gabas, where healthcare services are often scarce, ensuring that those in need of medical attention receive adequate care.

The free medical services offered included malaria testing and treatment, hypertension management, eye examinations, dental care, diabetes screening, and pediatric services. The Commandant of the 8th Division Medical Hospital, Brigadier General Austin Okafor, assured the community that any complicated cases would be referred to the Army Hospital at Giginya Barracks in Sokoto for further treatment.

The event was met with gratitude from the local community, with Abubakar Maradun, a resident, commending the Army’s efforts and urging them to extend similar initiatives across Sokoto State. He also called on the community to remain orderly and offer prayers for the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and the entire Nigerian Army.

This outreach reflects the Nigerian Army’s long-standing tradition of providing support beyond military operations, ensuring that the welfare of civilians is also a top priority.
