The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has successfully secured 50 acres of farmland in Ogun State for the 2025 farming season and beyond. This initiative, aimed at addressing food security challenges, was announced by the Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, Mr. Johnson Babatunde, in an interview with journalists on Sunday.
The farmland, located in Obada Oko within the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun, will be made available to interested residents of Orile-Agege for crop and animal farming. The initiative aims to bolster food production and help alleviate the impact of food shortages.
Mr. Babatunde emphasized that the project will introduce modern farming technologies to the community, with support provided to residents interested in utilizing the land. “The council will assist residents in adopting modern farming methods for both crop planting and animal rearing,” he said, highlighting the potential for increased creativity and innovation in agricultural practices.
He further explained that the agricultural initiative was designed to empower Orile-Agege youth and other residents, providing them with opportunities in farming, entrepreneurship, and agricultural innovation. “This project is part of our commitment to community empowerment, particularly focusing on youth development,” Mr. Babatunde added.
By promoting agriculture as a viable career path and economic venture, the council hopes to foster sustainable food production, ultimately ensuring a surplus of food within the community. This initiative aligns with Orile-Agege LCDA’s broader goals of improving the livelihoods of its residents and creating job opportunities through agriculture.
