Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. The decision, which follows extensive consultations and divinations, was announced in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
The Oyomesi, the traditional council responsible for selecting the Alaafin, recommended Prince Owoade, and the governor has formally endorsed the choice. This announcement marks the end of socio-political and legal disputes that arose after the passing of the previous Alaafin, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.
Hon. Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, urged the people of Oyo State to unite in celebrating this historic occasion and to extend their support to the new Alaafin. He expressed optimism that Prince Owoade’s reign would usher in an era of peace, prosperity, and unity for the Oyo Kingdom.
The government has called on citizens to embrace this new chapter in the kingdom’s storied history.
