In a move aimed at strengthening the management of sports in the country, the National Sports Commission will carry out a reshuffle of the Secretary General across various national sports federations today.
The move comes after the Secretary General of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Rita Mosindi was recommended for sanction by a seven-man committee constituted
by former sports minister John Enoh for her misconduct in the setback suffered by sprinter Favour Ofili during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The committee indicted Mosindi stating her failure to perform their duties which forced Ofili, a sprinter, into the situation.
It was also learnt that restructuring is part of a broader initiative of the NSC to improve the efficiency and accountability of sports administration in line with evolving national and international standards.
Sources within the NSC have confirmed that the decision to reorganise leadership within the federations comes after extensive consultations and a review of current administrative operations.
The reshuffle is expected to bring fresh leadership into key positions, potentially injecting new ideas and strategies into the management of sporting programs and resources.
“The aim is to ensure that the federations are led by individuals who are both passionate and qualified to drive the growth of their respective sports,” a senior official at the NSC told only La Palabras.com.
“This change is part of our broader strategy to enhance the quality of sports governance and bring about the much-needed reforms.”
The reshuffling of secretary General follows a series of discussions and evaluations, with the NSC focusing on increasing professionalism and fostering greater collaboration between federations and the commission itself.
This move is seen as a response to challenges faced by several federations in delivering results at both the grassroots and elite levels of competition.
While the specific names of those affected by the reshuffle have not yet been disclosed, it is expected that the NSC will provide a formal announcement later today, along with new appointments to key positions.
Stakeholders within the sports community are eagerly awaiting the changes, hoping they will lead to more streamlined operations and improved outcomes for athletes and teams across the nation.
The NSC continues to focus on enhancing sports infrastructure, athlete development, and the successful hosting of international events.
With this latest move, the NSC is reiterating its commitment to creating an environment that fosters excellence and transparency within the sporting sector.
