AC Milan, Napoli Compete for Rashford

Date:

AC Milan are reportedly plotting a surprising loan swoop for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, as the Englishman faces a challenging spell at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old forward has been left out of United’s last five matchday squads, with manager Ruben Amorim excluding him from four of those games. Rashford’s lack of playing time has fueled speculation about his future, and Milan’s interest signals a potential way out.

According to reports from Relevo, the Italian giants are exploring a loan deal for Rashford, as his hefty wages—£325,000 per week—pose a challenge for a permanent transfer. A loan agreement would allow Milan to bolster their attack without committing to a full transfer fee.

Rashford’s former teammate, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who now serves in a leadership role at AC Milan, is said to have a significant influence on the club’s transfer decisions. Ibrahimovic’s involvement could play a key role in securing Rashford’s services.

Milan are not alone in their pursuit of the England international. Serie A leaders Napoli have also expressed interest, with reports suggesting a possible swap deal involving their star striker Victor Osimhen. However, Rashford’s preference appears to be Spain, although options in La Liga remain limited.

Rashford recently turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia that would have doubled his salary. The forward’s priority is to remain in top-flight European football and reclaim his place in the England squad ahead of major international tournaments.

In a candid interview last month, Rashford hinted at a possible departure from Manchester United, stating he was “ready for a new challenge and the next steps” in his career.

When asked about Rashford’s future at United, manager Amorim emphasized that the decision lies largely with the player. “It depends more on him than me,” Amorim said. “He has to want it really, really bad. He’s here and ready to play if I decide.”

As the January transfer window heats up, Rashford’s next move remains uncertain. Whether he heads to Milan, stays in Manchester, or explores other opportunities, the coming weeks will be crucial for the forward’s career trajectory.
