Iwobi Credits Fulham’s Unity for Impressive Form

Date:

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has credited Fulham’s team chemistry and togetherness for his strong performances this season.

The Nigeria international has made a significant impact under manager Marco Silva, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 19 Premier League matches, becoming a key player for the club.

Speaking to BBC Sport Africa, Iwobi said the importance of the team’s unity both on and off the field.

“We’re really fighting for each other,” Iwobi said.

“You can see it on the pitch, but off the pitch, what the cameras don’t catch is that we’re really one big brotherhood. It’s a nice environment, the chemistry is really good, and I feel like that’s helping us get the results we need.”

Fulham are enjoying an impressive start to the 2024-2025 Premier League season, sitting in eighth place and looking to secure a potential European spot.

Iwobi’s strong form has been central to the club’s success as they aim to improve on their best-ever finish of 10th place in the 2011/12 season.

Iwobi also praised manager Marco Silva for providing him with the freedom to thrive in different positions.

“I feel like I’m just expressing myself a bit more,” he said.

“The manager gives me that license and freedom to get into more goalscoring opportunities. Even if I make a mistake, he says: ‘Alex, go again.’”

The 28-year-old also credited his teammates for their unwavering support.

“Having that confidence from him and my teammates backing me makes you feel almost unstoppable. You’re willing to try and do anything on the pitch,” he added.

Iwobi remains optimistic about Fulham’s chances of qualifying for Europe this season.

“We have the players, and I haven’t played in Europe in a long time, so it’s a dream I want to achieve again,” he said.

“We’re not scared of anyone. We’re confident we can compete and take three points against anyone. The sky’s the limit.”
