Abia-North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed confidence in the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that they will yield positive results in due course. Speaking during a New Year’s visit to Chief Daniel Eke, a former Abia State governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kalu highlighted the importance of updating Nigeria’s outdated laws to align with global economic realities.
“The revamping of our nation’s laws, some over 100 years old, is imperative to meet current global expectations,” Kalu said.
Referring to the recently introduced Tax Reform Bills, Kalu commended President Tinubu for his bold leadership but criticized the lack of public awareness before the bill’s rollout. He stressed the need for broader consultations and public education to ensure Nigerians understand the benefits of the reforms.
Kalu emphasized the importance of fostering economic competition among Nigeria’s 36 states to drive growth, citing China’s success as a model. He argued that no Nigerian state is inherently poor, urging each to leverage its resources and productivity.
“We must embrace competition like China, where states grow through economic rivalry. The era of sharing free money in Abuja must end,” he asserted.
Kalu acknowledged the economic hardships Nigerians are currently facing due to the reforms but assured that the challenges are temporary. He encouraged patience, promising that 2025 would bring positive outcomes.
“President Tinubu and I are fully aware of the pains Nigerians are enduring, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. These reforms will pave the way for sustainable growth,” Kalu noted.
Chief Daniel Eke commended Kalu for his legislative contributions and focus on infrastructure and job creation. “While others empower with frying pans, Senator Kalu delivers industries, infrastructure, and employment opportunities,” Eke remarked.
Kalu reiterated his commitment to delivering economic and infrastructural dividends to his constituents. He underscored his dedication to his senatorial duties, stating, “I have left my private businesses to focus on serving the people of Abia-North. My duty as a Senator is sacred, and I remain committed to it.”
Kalu’s visit and remarks have sparked optimism among constituents, who hope the ongoing reforms will ultimately lead to a more prosperous and competitive Nigeria.
