The Borno State Police Command has arrested a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, Muhammad Idrissa, for allegedly providing cooking ingredients to Boko Haram insurgents in the state.
The arrest, which was confirmed on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nahum Daso, followed intelligence reports regarding the suspect’s activities. Idrissa, who had previously been involved with the Civilian Joint Task Force, is accused of supplying basic cooking items such as Maggi, cooking oil, salt, and pepper to members of the insurgent group.
Idrissa admitted to the allegations, explaining that he had been helping his younger brother, who is reportedly a member of Boko Haram. He stated, “I started recently, and I have only supplied them five times. I normally supply them with cooking items like Maggi, cooking oil, salt, and pepper.” He explained that he felt compelled to assist his brother, who, according to him, lacked access to these supplies while in the insurgent camp.
While sharing details of his involvement, Idrissa revealed that he was previously a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, which works alongside security agencies to combat insurgents. However, his actions, allegedly driven by familial ties, have now led to his arrest.
The police have assured the public that Idrissa will soon be charged in court. The Borno State Police Command continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities in a bid to tackle the ongoing insurgency.
Daso emphasized that the arrest highlights the importance of intelligence gathering and proactive policing in the fight against terrorism.
