The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reassured residents about the potential removal of properties along the road corridors in Abuja, emphasizing that the government will follow due process.
Speaking to journalists on Monday after inspecting the Judges Quarters in the Katampe District and surrounding access roads, including the interchange at RR1 and Shehu Shagari Expressway, Wike clarified that proper procedures would be adhered to during the execution of the project.
“The government will ensure that all affected residents are fairly compensated for any property acquired for the road project,” Wike stated. “Relocation and compensation will be handled according to due process.”
The minister also appealed to the community for their cooperation and support in the ongoing development. He highlighted the long-term benefits of the project, noting that once completed, the area would be improved with infrastructure such as streetlights.
“Imagine how it was and see how it is now. When it is finished with streetlights everywhere, it will benefit them,” Wike remarked, underlining the positive impact of the road expansion on local residents.
In response to a question about his performance as FCT minister, Wike humbly deferred judgment to the Presidential Monitoring Team, which is tasked with evaluating the achievements of his office. However, he expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, stating, “I am delighted with what the government has achieved in the FCT.”
Wike’s assurances come as the government continues its efforts to enhance the infrastructure of the Federal Capital Territory, including key road projects aimed at improving mobility and boosting the region’s development.
