Tinubu Administration Prioritizes Southern Kaduna with New Federal University

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, a move aimed at addressing the educational and developmental challenges in the region. This was disclosed by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a condolence visit to the Kukah family in Kamuru, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, over the weekend.

Shettima revealed that discussions are also underway to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, further signaling the federal government’s commitment to the region’s development. The announcement was confirmed in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications.

“With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” Shettima stated.

Speaking at the residence of the late Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, Shettima underscored the Tinubu administration’s focus on Southern Kaduna. He highlighted the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as an example of the government’s attention to the security and welfare of the region.

“Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” the Vice President affirmed.

Shettima also praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for fostering inclusivity in governance, emphasizing the importance of connecting all parts of the state for collective growth. He pledged the federal government’s collaboration with the state to improve infrastructure, particularly road networks in Southern Kaduna.

During the visit, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, representing the Kukah family, expressed appreciation to the Vice President for the gesture.

“I want to thank you on behalf of this family. You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken,” Kukah said, urging for continued federal attention to the community.

The establishment of the federal university and discussions for a medical centre signal a renewed focus on development in Southern Kaduna, offering hope for enhanced educational opportunities and improved infrastructure in the region.
