Suspect Arrested for Shooting, Possession of Dangerous Weapons in Bwari

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Obinna Nwigwe, in connection with the shooting of a 29-year-old man, Andrew Philemon, at a guest house in Bwari on December 26, 2024.

According to the police, officers responded to a distress call from Najob Guest House in Bwari, where gunfire had been reported. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Philemon critically injured from gunshot wounds. He was immediately rushed to the National Hospital for treatment.

Nwigwe, who was found at the scene, claimed that the shooting occurred during a heated argument and that he fired the shot in self-defense. At the time of the incident, Nwigwe was armed with a pump-action rifle.

Following the arrest, a search of Nwigwe’s residence uncovered a disturbing arsenal of weapons, including five Dane guns, one English-made single barrel, an AK-47 magazine containing 29 rounds of live ammunition, four live cartridges, 17 expanded cartridges, a bow with arrows, various knives, a sword stick, a toy gun, a taser, a bulletproof jacket, and multiple sets of police uniforms and boots.

Nwigwe is currently in police custody and will face charges once the investigation is completed.

In another case, the police reported the successful recovery of a stolen vehicle after 45-year-old Onyeka Vincent filed a report of his car being stolen outside Saint Louis Catholic Church in Byazhin on December 29, 2024. Investigative efforts led to the arrest of 45-year-old Evans Omagba in Suleja, who was found in possession of Vincent’s stolen vehicle. During questioning, Omagba confessed to the theft and implicated three accomplices, who remain at large. The police also recovered two additional stolen vehicles from Omagba, underlining the ongoing problem of vehicle theft in the area.
