Kano Lawmakers Greenlight ₦719.7bn Budget for Human Capital Growth

Date:

The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved the 2025 Appropriation Bill, passing a budget of ₦719.7 billion under the theme “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development.”

The budget prioritizes critical sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, water and rural development, security, poverty reduction, agriculture, and economic growth. Of the total budget, ₦457.08 billion (64%) is allocated for capital expenditure, while ₦262.67 billion (36%) is earmarked for recurrent expenses.

The approved budget reflects an increase of over ₦170 billion from the ₦549.16 billion proposal initially presented by Governor Abba Yusuf.

During a rowdy session, lawmakers debated and finalized the budget, which is expected to significantly boost developmental projects across the state. According to a statement from the Speaker’s office, Kano anticipates generating ₦75.71 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR), comprising 13.8% of the budget. The remaining funds will be sourced from the Federation Account and capital receipts.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore lauded the assembly members for their diligence during deliberations. “This budget represents a crucial step in advancing the developmental goals of Kano State. I commend my colleagues for their patience and dedication,” Falgore said.

The budget’s focus on human capital and economic development underscores the state government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Kano residents while driving sustainable growth.
