Super Eagles B in Pot 3 for CHAN draw

Date:

The Super Eagles B team of Nigeria has been placed in Pot 3 for the first-round group draw of the 2024 African Nations Championship, which takes place today, December 30, in Cairo, Egypt.

The draw is for the tournament scheduled from February 1 to 28, 2024, and will feature teams from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda as hosts, as well as other qualified nations.

Nigeria secured its spot in the competition with a 3-1 aggregate win over Ghana in the final qualifying round.

This marks Nigeria’s return to CHAN after a six-year absence, their last appearance being in 2018.

The teams have been seeded based on their performances in the previous three CHAN tournaments (2018, 2020, and 2022).

Pot 1 includes Morocco and Senegal, while Pot 2 features Guinea, Zambia, Madagascar, Rwanda, and Sudan.

Other teams in Pot 3 include Nigeria, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Congo, Angola, and the Central African Republic.

The Super Eagles B team could potentially face any of the host teams or one of the stronger sides in their group.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, Daniel Ogunmodede expressed optimism about the upcoming tournament and stressed the value of sustained preparation.

“We had early preparations for the qualifiers with three phases of camping,” Ogunmodede said.

“The last phase started four weeks ago in Ikenne, and that really helped us. Hopefully, we will have the same preparation for the CHAN proper.”

He added, “Obviously, there is little or nothing that will change because these boys have really proved themselves. We can only assess the videos, identify our weaknesses, and work on them.
