Isale-Eko Community Tackles Unemployment with New Job Database Initiative

Date:

The Isale-Eko Descendants Union (IDU) has launched an innovative Job Database aimed at providing employment opportunities for indigenes of Isale-Eko in Lagos State. The initiative, unveiled at the union’s Annual General Meeting and Chairman’s Year-End Get-Together held at Isale-Eko House, Iga Idungaran, Lagos, seeks to address the growing unemployment challenges within the community.

Adeniji Kazeem (SAN), the Chairman of the Isale-Eko Descendants Union, described the Job Database as a crucial step towards linking indigenes with potential employers. “The Isale-Eko Descendants Union Job Database will serve as a directory for all Isale-Eko indigenes seeking employment. It will allow us to provide detailed information to employers when job opportunities arise,” he stated.

Kazeem encouraged members of the community to actively participate in the initiative by submitting their resumes, including personal details such as name, age, gender, religion, preferred job field, and years of experience. Resumes can be submitted via email or WhatsApp to ensure widespread access. The platform will also enable employers to advertise job openings, making it easier for the indigenes to discover new career opportunities.

Beyond employment, Kazeem highlighted the growing concerns of threats to the cultural heritage, environment, and infrastructure of Isale-Eko. He noted that the community’s culture, public health, and access to basic amenities like clean water and proper drainage were all under threat. “Our community is losing its shine as one of the last bastions of indigenes and culture,” Kazeem remarked.

In his address, Kazeem praised the Culture Committee, led by Wale Irokosu, for its efforts to promote tourism and preserve Isale-Eko’s rich cultural heritage through new initiatives slated for 2025. Additionally, he reflected on a recent meeting with the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, who expressed concerns about environmental degradation, including impassable streets due to flooding and unauthorized markets that hinder the community’s growth.

Kazeem emphasized the need for immediate action to tackle these challenges, urging stakeholders to address issues before resuming the annual Isale-Eko Day Cultural Walk. He also commended the Lagos State government’s proposed regeneration plans for Lagos Island but stressed the importance of urgent implementation to alleviate the community’s pressing issues.

The Chairman concluded by urging local authorities to harness their financial and operational powers to drive much-needed development in the area, ensuring that the community thrives and remains a beacon of culture and progress.
